The New Pretrip Answer Key


The pretrip exam is the first portion of the CDL exam and can be the most stressful part.

“The Commercial Vehicle Pre-Trip Inspection Test is designed to test your ability to check a variety of commercial vehicle safety equipment and
vehicle components. You are required to check the items listed below that relate to the operation of your vehicle. You will need to point out the
item to be checked and explain how you check that item. You may use this checklist during your pre-trip inspection.”

You have 45 minutes to complete your pretrip inspection. They will give you a list to go through. You are required to say at least 3-4 descriptive points per item. Some acronyms to help are CBD (Cracked, Bent, Dented), ABC (Abrasions, Bulges, Cuts), CCC (Cracked, Clean, Clear), PMS (Properly mounted and secure).
